Man Utd Plot Shock Double LaLiga Raid as Summer Rebuild Gathers Pace

Manchester United are preparing for what could be one of the most important transfer windows in recent years, with reports suggesting the club are targeting two standout LaLiga players while also drawing up an extensive midfield shortlist. With INEOS now shaping the football side of the club, there is a clear sense that this summer is about correcting past mistakes and building a more balanced, competitive squad capable of challenging again at the top level.

United’s need for reinforcement is obvious. Central midfield has been identified as the main priority, but it is far from the only area under review. A new left winger, centre-forward, left-back, right-back and even a goalkeeper are all being considered as part of a wide-ranging rebuild at Old Trafford. While there is a strong preference for players with Premier League experience, United are willing to make exceptions for exceptional talent shining abroad – particularly in Spain.

One of those players is Alejandro Balde. The Barcelona left-back has emerged as a serious target, with reports last week revealing United’s interest before journalist Ben Jacobs confirmed that the pursuit is being led by Christopher Vivell, the club’s director of recruitment. Balde, still just 22, has already established himself at the highest level with Barcelona and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting full-backs in Europe.

Barcelona are said to value Balde at more than €60 million, a figure that reflects both his age and importance to the team. United, however, are believed to be considering an opening bid closer to €40 million. According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Inter Milan have now entered the race, potentially complicating matters. Crucially, Barcelona’s ongoing financial issues mean they may be more open to a sale than in previous years, especially if it helps them balance the books.

United’s interest in LaLiga does not stop there. Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye is also reportedly on the club’s radar. Spanish outlet Fichajes claims the Senegal international is enjoying the best season of his career and that United are willing to pay around €60 million to bring him to England. Gueye has been identified as a potential long-term replacement for Casemiro, whose influence has waned as injuries and age have caught up with him.

Gueye’s journey makes his rise even more interesting. He briefly played for Watford in 2020, but his development since then has been significant. At Villarreal, he has grown into a commanding midfielder known for his physical strength, tactical discipline and ability to break up play. United see him as someone who could bring much-needed energy and balance to their midfield.

Despite this interest, Gueye is not the biggest name on United’s shortlist. INEOS are understood to be carefully weighing several midfield options, with a strong focus on players who can adapt quickly to the Premier League. One familiar name is Amadou Onana, now at Aston Villa. United admired Onana during his time at Everton and are once again monitoring his situation.

However, Onana may not be the top choice. Transfer reporter Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton are all higher on United’s list. Anderson, currently at Nottingham Forest, is believed to be the priority target, though competition from Manchester City could make any deal difficult. United’s recent history of missing out on key targets means they are keeping alternative options ready.

The search for a left-back has also thrown up frustration. United are said to “dream” of signing Federico Dimarco from Inter Milan after scouts were repeatedly sent to watch him this season. Dimarco’s numbers are outstanding – 15 assists in 33 matches from a wing-back role – and he has been described by some in Italy as the best left-back in the world right now.

That dream, however, appears to be over. Italian outlet L’Interista reports that a single phone call was enough for United to learn that Inter have no intention of selling. Dimarco, a lifelong Inter supporter, is said to have no desire to leave and is expected to sign a new contract, ending United’s interest.

Taken together, these reports paint a clear picture of United’s summer strategy. The club are casting a wide net, mixing proven Premier League performers with elite talent from abroad. The interest in Balde and Gueye shows a willingness to invest heavily in young players with room to grow, while the midfield shortlist highlights how determined INEOS are to rebuild the spine of the team.

Whether United can turn these ambitions into completed deals remains to be seen. What is clear, though, is that this transfer window could define the next phase of the club’s rebuild. Get it right, and Old Trafford could finally start to feel like a place of progress again. Get it wrong, and the cycle of frustration may only continue.
