Pep Guardiola Hails Instant Impact of Marc Guehi After Dream Manchester City Debut

Pep Guardiola did not hide his satisfaction as Manchester City returned to winning ways with a controlled 2-0 victory over Wolves, but the City boss was especially keen to highlight the instant impact of new signing Marc Guehi.

The England defender only completed his move to the Etihad Stadium earlier this week, yet he was immediately thrown into the starting line-up and played a key role in City’s clean sheet. For Guardiola, the decision to start Guehi so soon was an easy one — and the early signs suggest it may already be paying off.

Guardiola’s defensive gamble pays off

Manchester City have struggled for consistency at the back this season, largely due to injuries. Both Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are currently sidelined with long-term problems, leaving Guardiola short of options in central defence. The win over Wolves may not go down as a classic, but it could prove important in City’s season. With key players missing, Guardiola has been searching for balance and reliability, particularly in defence. Guehi’s debut suggests City may have found a solution, or at least a steady short-term fix.
