Michael Carrick Sends Strong Warning to Man United Stars Ahead of Fulham Clash

Michael Carrick has made it clear that Manchester United cannot afford to relax after their stunning revival under his early leadership, warning that any complacency against Fulham would be “bang out of order”.

Carrick acknowledged that reality but refused to accept the idea that United need to reinvent themselves simply because the opponent has changed.

“I don’t think we need to make too much of it,” he explained.

“We understand what has worked before and what hasn’t, but the boys are in a good place going into the game.

“It’s Fulham — just because we’re at home, taking anything for granted is bang out of order.”

The message was firm and unmistakable. Momentum alone will not win matches.

Respect for Fulham and Marco Silva

Carrick also made a point of praising Fulham manager Marco Silva, whose side have impressed this season with their organisation and intensity.

Fulham arrive at Old Trafford as a team capable of punishing complacency, particularly through quick transitions and intelligent movement in midfield. Carrick believes United must be fully focused to extend their winning run.

“They’re a tough team,” he said. “Marco has got Fulham into a really good place.

“We’ll deal with the game in front of us and do whatever it takes to come out on top.”

A victory would give Carrick three straight league wins — equalling Rúben Amorim’s longest winning run during his own time in charge — but the interim boss insists records and comparisons are irrelevant.

Injury concerns dampen optimism

Despite the positivity surrounding the club, United will be without one of their recent standout performers.

Patrick Dorgu, who impressed in victories over both City and Arsenal, has been ruled out after suffering a hamstring injury. Early hopes that it might only be cramp were quickly dismissed following further assessment.

“Unfortunately, it looks a little bit more serious,” Carrick admitted.

“He’s going to be out for a few weeks. We’re still working through how long exactly.”

“He’s disappointed,” Carrick added. “He’s had such a big couple of weeks.

“But it’s football. We’ve got to work through it and get him back as soon as we can.”

There was better news elsewhere, however, as Joshua Zirkzee returned to full training this week and could feature for the first time under Carrick.

The Dutch forward has not played since the managerial change but now offers a valuable attacking option as United attempt to maintain their momentum.

“Josh is back training this week, which is great news,” Carrick confirmed.

“It’s the first proper training he’s had with us since we’ve been here, so it’s good to have him back.”

With Dorgu sidelined, Zirkzee’s availability provides Carrick with flexibility in attack, particularly against a Fulham side likely to defend deep.

Defensive absences continue

United will still be without Matthijs de Ligt, who remains sidelined with a back injury that has now kept him out for nearly two months.

While his absence has been felt, the defensive structure has improved significantly under Carrick, particularly in the wins over City and Arsenal where United conceded very little from open play.
