Pep Guardiola has openly asked for the chance to rebuild Manchester City after a tough run of results, admitting that the team’s past success is the only reason he hasn’t been sacked recently.

City is currently going through a rough patch, with no wins in their last six games. They’ve lost five matches in a row, and most recently, they let a three-goal lead slip away in their Champions League match against Feyenoord. With this poor form, City now face a crucial trip to Anfield to play Liverpool. Sitting eight points behind league leaders, City needs a win to stay in the race for the title.

One of the main reasons for City’s struggles has been the absence of key midfielder Rodri, along with injuries in the defense. Guardiola has also acknowledged that his squad is getting older, and he knew this would be a challenge when he signed his two-year contract extension last season. He wants to rebuild the team and has asked for the opportunity to do so.

In an interview, Guardiola said: “At this football club, you have to win, and if you don’t, you will be in trouble. What we’ve achieved over the last eight years is why I still have some trust, but I know I have to prove myself again.”

Guardiola also made it clear that he’s not making excuses for the current problems, such as Rodri’s injury or the absence of several defenders. He understands the team isn’t as consistent as it was in previous seasons, but he remains confident they can find solutions.

He continued: “It’s not nice to live through tough times, but what do people expect? That everything is always perfect? It’s easy when everything is going well, but now is the time when I need to prove myself.”

Despite the tough situation, Guardiola emphasized that he has the support of the club’s leadership. He has regular talks with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarek and director of football Txiki Begiristain, where they discuss the team’s performance and plans moving forward.

Guardiola believes the club will find a solution, but he also understands that if things don’t improve, the club may have to make tough decisions. However, for now, Guardiola is determined to stay and rebuild the team, aiming for a better future at City.

The next few months will be critical for Guardiola and City as they try to turn things around. Fans are hoping the manager can get the team back to winning ways and secure another successful chapter for Manchester City.
