4-star PG Tay Kinney schedules Kentucky official visit
Taylen “Tay” Kinney, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Newport, Kentucky, has emerged as one of the most coveted recruits in the 2026 class. After transferring to Overtime Elite (OTE) in Atlanta, Kinney has continued to impress on the national stage, solidifying his status as a top-20 prospect. His recruitment has intensified, with the University of Kentucky making a significant move by offering him a scholarship and hosting him for an official visit.
Kinney’s recruitment trajectory has been marked by rapid ascension. Initially a standout at Newport High School, he transferred to OTE to further develop his skills and compete at a higher level. His performances with OTE’s Rod Wave Elite team have garnered attention, with averages of 22.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. Kentucky extended a scholarship offer to Kinney during an unofficial visit in August 2024. Head coach Mark Pope and assistant coach Cody Fueger engaged with Kinney during this visit, watching film and discussing his potential fit within the Wildcats’ program. In addition to the August visit, Kinney returned to Lexington for an official visit in October 2024. During this trip, he spent time with Coach Pope and the coaching staff, engaging in film sessions and discussions about his game. Kinney’s recruitment is highly competitive, with numerous programs vying for his commitment. His top-15 list includes prestigious programs such as Kansas, Arkansas, Auburn, Louisville, and Cincinnati. Despite the stiff competition, Kentucky’s status as Kinney’s home-state school and the presence of fellow Kentucky native Jasper Johnson at OTE may provide the Wildcats with a unique advantage.
