Most passing yards by a quarterback making his first career start at Georgia (60 players have made at least one start at quarterback for the Bulldogs since 1945).

The University of Georgia has witnessed numerous quarterbacks make their first career starts, each leaving a unique mark on the program’s rich football history. Among these, several stand out for their exceptional performances, setting high standards for those who followed.
One of the most notable debut performances came from Eric Zeier in 1991. Stepping in as a true freshman, Zeier led the Bulldogs to a 27–12 upset victory over No. 6-ranked Clemson, throwing for 249 yards and two touchdowns. This game not only showcased his talent but also marked the beginning of a record-setting career. Zeier would go on to become Georgia’s all-time leader in passing yards, with 11,153, and set numerous Southeastern Conference (SEC) records during his tenure.
Another standout debut was that of Quincy Carter in 1998. As a true freshman, Carter started the season opener against Kent State, completing 12 of 16 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in a 56–3 victory. He followed this with a remarkable performance against No. 6 LSU, throwing for 318 yards and two touchdowns in a 28–27 win. Carter’s early success set the tone for a promising career, leading Georgia to an SEC Championship and earning SEC Freshman of the Year honors.
Jake Fromm’s debut in 2017 also left a significant impact. After replacing an injured Jacob Eason, Fromm led the Bulldogs to a 17–16 victory over No. 24 Notre Dame in South Bend. He completed 16 of 29 passes for 141 yards and a touchdown, demonstrating poise under pressure. Fromm’s leadership helped guide Georgia to the National Championship game that season, and he remains one of the program’s most accomplished quarterbacks.
More recently, Carson Beck’s debut in 2023 was noteworthy. In the season opener against UT Martin, Beck threw for 294 yards and a touchdown, adding another touchdown rushing in a 48–7 victory. He continued to impress throughout the season, setting a new standard for Georgia quarterbacks.
These performances highlight the caliber of talent that has graced Georgia’s quarterback position. Each debut not only contributed to immediate success but also paved the way for future achievements, solidifying their places in the annals of Georgia football history.
