Rúben Amorim Targets £41m Star He 'Wants to Work With' for January Transfer to Manchester United

Rúben Amorim eyes £41m Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras as a key addition to Manchester United in January.

Rúben Amorim targets Benfica's Alvaro Carreras for Manchester United in January transfer window
Rúben Amorim is ready to take Manchester United forward as their new manager, after the departure of Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese coach is already looking at ways to improve the squad, with plans for the January transfer window already being drawn up.

Erik ten Hag’s time at Manchester United ended last month after a poor run of results. United was in 14th place in the Premier League and struggling in the Europa League. This led to his dismissal, and Rúben Amorim was chosen to take over.

However, Amorim has not officially taken charge yet because of some complications with his contract. He is expected to start as the manager on November 24 when Manchester United faces Ipswich Town in the Premier League. In the meantime, Ruud van Nistelrooy temporarily stepped in as manager and led the team to three wins and one draw. Now, Amorim is preparing for his debut and is already thinking about how to strengthen the squad.

One of the key areas that Amorim wants to improve is the left-back position. Both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have been injured, leaving United short of options in that spot.

Reports say that Amorim has set his sights on bringing back Álvaro Carreras, a 21-year-old left-back who used to be in Manchester United’s youth system. After being sold to Benfica in the summer, Carreras has been impressing in Portugal, and Amorim sees him as a valuable player to help improve United’s defense.

While Benfica has valued Carreras at £41 million, Manchester United could bring him back for only £16 million because of a special clause in his contract that allows them to buy him back at a cheaper price. This makes Carreras an affordable option for United in the upcoming transfer window.

Carreras has been playing well for Benfica, which is why Amorim is keen on bringing him back to Old Trafford. With his experience at Benfica, Carreras could add a lot of quality to United’s squad, especially in the left-back role.

Although there has been a lot of talk about a possible return to Manchester United, Carreras has made it clear that he is focused on his current club, Benfica. When asked about the rumors, he said:

“I only think about Benfica. I’m only focused here. I’ll try to keep up the same level, try to help the team as much as possible.”

However, with the buy-back clause in his contract, United may still look to sign him in January. Amorim’s familiarity with Carreras gives him a good reason to push for the transfer.
