Jermod And Four other Tennessee are recognized on the PFF preseason All-America team

Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Jermod McCoy has earned a prestigious spot on Pro Football Focus’s (PFF) 2025 Preseason All-America Team. This recognition underscores his exceptional performance in the 2024 season and solidifies his status as one of college football’s premier defensive talents.

McCoy’s journey to prominence began with his transfer from Oregon State to Tennessee, where he quickly became a cornerstone of the Volunteers’ defense. In his inaugural season with Tennessee, McCoy showcased his prowess by recording 44 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and four interceptions. His standout performances included pivotal interceptions against Alabama and Vanderbilt, plays that were instrumental in securing Tennessee’s spot in the College Football Playoff.

Pro Football Focus highlighted McCoy’s impressive 89.6 coverage grade, ranking second among returning Power Five cornerbacks, and noted his four interceptions, which were tied for second in that group. Additionally, McCoy’s exceptional athleticism was evident, earning him a near-perfect 99.9 in PFF’s Game Athleticism Score metric.

Despite his remarkable 2024 season, McCoy faced a significant setback in January 2025 when he tore his ACL during an offseason training session. This injury sidelined him for spring practices, casting uncertainty over his availability for the upcoming season.

However, Tennessee’s coaching staff remains optimistic about his recovery. Defensive backs coach Willie Martinez expressed confidence in McCoy’s leadership and commitment, stating that McCoy has been actively engaged in team activities and continues to grow as a player, even while rehabbing.

McCoy’s stellar performance has not gone unnoticed by NFL scouts. Multiple outlets, including ESPN, CBS Sports, and Todd McShay, project him as a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, with potential selections ranging from No. 11 to No. 20 overall.

This projection reflects McCoy’s blend of size, skill, and athleticism, making him one of the top cornerback prospects in the nation.

As Tennessee prepares for the 2025 season, McCoy’s presence in the secondary is anticipated to be a key factor in the Volunteers’ defensive strategy. His ability to lock down top receivers and create turnovers will be crucial as Tennessee aims to build on its success and contend for championships.

Jermod McCoy’s inclusion in PFF’s Preseason All-America Team is a testament to his exceptional talent and potential. With his resilience and determination, McCoy is poised to continue his ascent in college football and beyond.
