We are thrilled to share some outstanding staff news that marks a significant moment in the ongoing development of our program. Please join us in congratulating Maggie Stanley on her well-earned promotion to Assistant Director of Operations/Special Assistant to the Head Coach.
This announcement is not only a celebration of Maggie’s growth within our program but also a reflection of the values we hold dear: hard work, loyalty, leadership, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Maggie has consistently exemplified these principles, and her new role is a testament to her dedication, talent, and the deep trust placed in her by the coaching staff, the administration, and everyone who has had the pleasure of working alongside her.
A Foundation Built on Dedication
Maggie Stanley’s journey to this point has been anything but ordinary. A true product of determination and vision, Maggie began her career in athletics in roles that required humility, resilience, and a strong desire to learn. From the outset, she demonstrated that she was willing to go above and beyond to support her team, her colleagues, and the overall mission of the program.
Her career began at Marshall University, where she was quickly recognized for her initiative and effectiveness. Maggie started as a student manager in 2018, managing behind-the-scenes operations with grace and efficiency. While many may have overlooked the importance of such a role, Maggie approached it with the professionalism and intensity of someone who knew it was the foundation for something greater.
By 2022, her talent had propelled her into the role of Director of Basketball Operations at Marshall. She was entrusted with coordinating team travel, managing scheduling logistics, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring the program functioned seamlessly. She didn’t just meet expectations—she exceeded them, earning the respect and admiration of both coaching staff and players. During her tenure, the Marshall Thundering Herd experienced a historic season, culminating in a Sun Belt Conference championship and a return to the NCAA Tournament.
The Lady Vols Chapter Begins
In 2024, Maggie brought her expertise to the University of Tennessee, joining the Lady Vols as a graduate assistant under Head Coach Kim Caldwell. It didn’t take long for her impact to be felt. Her attention to detail, deep understanding of program operations, and positive attitude made her a vital part of the daily functioning of the team.
Whether it was coordinating practice logistics, managing communication between staff and players, or ensuring smooth operations on game days, Maggie consistently demonstrated the kind of proactive leadership that is rare and invaluable. She earned the trust of the coaching staff and quickly became a go-to resource for a wide range of needs across the program.
A Well-Earned Promotion
Now, as she steps into the role of Assistant Director of Operations/Special Assistant to the Head Coach, Maggie will be taking on even greater responsibilities. This new role reflects her integral presence within the program and is a clear signal of the confidence the Lady Vols leadership has in her continued contributions.
As Assistant Director of Operations, Maggie will oversee the broad operations of the program—including travel, compliance, scheduling, and team communication. But this role also brings her into closer strategic alignment with Head Coach Kim Caldwell in a special assistant capacity. This means deeper involvement in coaching support, game prep, recruiting coordination, and overall team strategy.
The trust placed in Maggie is a reflection of her proven track record and her unique ability to balance the many demands of a high-level Division I program. Her dual role combines operations and strategic insight, highlighting her versatility and depth of knowledge in the game.
Praise from Coach Caldwell
Head Coach Kim Caldwell shared her thoughts on Maggie’s promotion, saying, “Maggie has been an integral part of our program since she joined us. She understands what it means to work in high-pressure environments, to support a team with integrity and energy, and to always bring her best. Her passion, her loyalty, and her skillset make her the perfect fit for this expanded role. I couldn’t be more excited to have her stepping into this position, and I know our program will be stronger because of it.”
These words capture what many who work with Maggie already know—her presence elevates everyone around her. She embodies professionalism, she builds strong relationships, and she holds herself to the highest standards. She’s also a constant learner, always seeking new ways to grow and better support the team.
A Leader Off the Court
Beyond her operational talents, Maggie is also a leader in shaping team culture. She brings a positive energy into every room she enters. Her colleagues describe her as someone who leads by example—always early, always prepared, and always focused on how she can help others succeed. These qualities have become a cornerstone of the Lady Vols’ daily operations and have helped foster an environment where players and staff alike can thrive.
Maggie’s approach to leadership isn’t about making noise; it’s about making a difference. She is detail-oriented, solutions-focused, and calm under pressure. In a world where so much of success depends on unseen preparation, Maggie is often the steady hand guiding things forward.
What This Means for the Program
For the Lady Vols, this promotion represents more than just an internal staffing move—it’s a recommitment to the values that make this program great. By recognizing and investing in someone like Maggie, the program is affirming its belief in internal growth, in rewarding excellence, and in building a team that is as strong off the court as it is on it.
It also sends a message to student-athletes and aspiring professionals in sports administration: that hard work, character, and consistency do not go unnoticed. Maggie’s promotion is proof that no role is too small to make an impact, and that the path to leadership is paved by those who lead from wherever they stand.
Looking Ahead
As Maggie settles into her new role, there is great optimism about what lies ahead—not only for her but for the Lady Vols program as a whole. Her promotion adds depth and continuity to the coaching and operations staff, and her collaborative nature ensures that the program’s day-to-day and long-term strategies are in sync.
Maggie Stanley’s rise through the ranks is a story of loyalty, humility, and excellence. Her journey is a shining example of what’s possible when talent meets tenacity, and when individuals are given the opportunity to grow in environments that value their unique contributions.
