Safety of the Auburn Tigers to Access the Transfer Portal
Auburn Tigers safety Caleb Wooden has announced his decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, marking a significant shift in the team’s defensive lineup. Wooden, a 6-foot-1, 191-pound safety from Lawrenceville, Georgia, has been with Auburn for three seasons, participating in 28 games and starting nine. Throughout his tenure, he accumulated 41 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, four pass deflections, and two interceptions .
This move is part of a broader trend, as Wooden becomes the third Auburn safety and fourth defensive back to enter the transfer portal this offseason. Other defensive backs who have entered the portal include starting safety Laquan Robinson and cornerback Antonio Kite, who was dismissed from the program in October .
In response to these departures, Auburn has bolstered its secondary by recruiting two highly-rated safeties for the 2025 season: Anquon Fegans, ranked as the No. 3 safety nationally by ESPN, and Eric Winters, ranked No. 7 by 247Sports .
As the Tigers navigate these roster changes, the coaching staff will likely focus on integrating the new recruits and adjusting defensive strategies to maintain a strong presence in the SEC.
