Edstrom’s third-period goal earns the Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Golden Knights

Adam Edstrom tipped in Jonny Brodzinski’s rush shot at 5:57 of the third period to give the New York Rangers a 2-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night.

The Rangers are 4-1-1 over their previous six games. The New York Islanders trounced Vegas 4-0 on Thursday night, marking the first time the team has lost consecutive games since November 17 and 20.

Vincent Trocheck scored the other New York goal on a power play, while Igor Shesterkin stopped 29 shots.

The Golden Knights’ goal was scored during a power play by Mark Stone. Ilya Samsonov recorded 24 saves.

Vegas’ Ivan Barbashev returned after missing the previous ten games due to an upper-body ailment. Despite the missed time, his 15 goals tie Brett Howden for the team lead. Barbashev wasted little time in making an impression, taking a shot on goal only 17 seconds into the contest.

Rangers’ top linemates, Artemi Panarin and Trocheck, continue to produce. They have each scored at least one point in the last four games. Their combined point total during that time is 12 (five goals, seven assists).

Golden Knights: The Golden Knights were fourth in scoring heading into the game, with an average of 3.46 goals. They have only scored one goal in two consecutive losses.

The Rangers trailed 1-0 in the second period when the puck deflected off Mika Zibanejad’s stick and struck Trocheck in the stomach. Trocheck somehow backhanded the shot into the net, tying the score, before immediately heading to the locker room. He returned a little while later.

The Rangers have scored four power-play goals in their last three games.

The Rangers play at Colorado on Tuesday night, while the Golden Knights host Minnesota on Sunday night.
