Mike Keith leaving Tennessee Titans to become ‘Voice of the Vols’
WCYB, Knoxville, Tennessee — Mike Keith, a longtime play-by-play radio commentator for the Tennessee Titans, is leaving the team to serve as the Tennessee Volunteers’ voice.
On Thursday, the news was made.
Bob Kesling announced his retirement last year, and Keith will take over.
Keith will serve as the primary play-by-play commentator for the men’s basketball and football games for the Volunteers.
Keith’s call of the famous Music City Miracle, which handed the Titans a playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills on January 8, 2000, is arguably what made him most famous.
It is difficult to say “no” to returning to the University of Tennessee and the Vol Network, but it is easy to say “yes” to the Tennessee Titans, Keith stated in a statement. “Alicia Longworth outlined a very exciting plan for me to help the talented content team at VFL Films.” I left Knoxville in 1998, but Steve Early has kept me feeling like I’ve been a member of the Vol Network family ever since. Everyone involved in this process has been incredibly nice, professional, and outstanding. This carried on a pattern from a number of encounters I’ve had over the past five years with people, including athletes, campus and university administration, employees, instructors, students, etc.—-from Everyone—I mean EVERYONE—is simply excellent. In the aim of making a significant contribution, I am thrilled to be joining this entire team. Being a Tennessee Volunteer is fantastic, especially in 2025!
Danny White, the director of athletics and chancellor at the University of Tennessee, stated, “When we talked about possible candidates, one name immediately came to mind: bringing Mike and his family back to Rocky Top.” “He is a true icon in the broadcasting industry, and we are excited to harness Mike’s exceptional skill set to further elevate both the Vol Network and Tennessee Athletics in bold, innovative ways.”
