"Every Manager Is Sackable" – Pundit Questions Pep Guardiola's Future Amid Manchester City's Poor Form

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is under the spotlight as the reigning Premier League champions endure an uncharacteristic run of poor form. Since November 2, the Cityzens have lost six of their last eight games, with their only victory coming against Nottingham Forest. Most recently, City suffered back-to-back 2-1 defeats—first to Manchester United at the Etihad on December 15 and then to Aston Villa on December 21.
This troubling spell has sparked concern, with pundit Jason Cundy drawing comparisons to the struggles of another legendary manager, Jose Mourinho, during his difficult 2015 season at Chelsea. Speaking on GameDay Phone-In (via talkSPORT), Cundy shared his concerns about Guardiola’s current situation:
“This reminds me so much of what Jose went through in 2015. Everything Jose touched turned to gold, and then suddenly, it all went wrong. That season, Chelsea were in a tailspin. This reminds me so much of it, and I’m not sure Pep knows how to fix it—or even what is wrong.”
Cundy highlighted key issues within the team, particularly their struggles at both ends of the pitch:
“City are defensively so open, and attacking-wise, they’re not creating the way they used to. I know people point at Rodri being out of form, and that’s fair, but the problems run deeper. They’re not the same team in attack, and at the back, they’re vulnerable. These are worrying times for City.”
When asked if Guardiola could face the sack, Cundy made a blunt but thought-provoking remark:
“Every manager is sackable, mate. I’m not saying they will sack Pep, but to suggest any manager is untouchable is a dangerous game. No one is unsackable—not Pep, not anyone.”
Guardiola recently signed a two-year contract extension, which ties him to Manchester City until 2027. Despite his incredible success at the club, including multiple Premier League titles and a historic treble last season, this period of uncertainty has cast doubts over whether he can turn things around.
