Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has expressed frustration following his team’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, emphasizing that the performance fell short of the club’s high standards. While Pep Guardiola praised the team’s resilience, Silva was candid about his disappointment, urging the squad to improve as they navigate a challenging period.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Silva made it clear that City should always aim for victory, even in tough circumstances. “With Man City, it’s always two points lost,” he said. “One point is better than zero, but we’re not happy at the moment. It’s not the way we built this team; it’s not our standard.”
Silva acknowledged the difficulties of facing Crystal Palace, particularly with City’s growing injury list, but maintained that excuses are not acceptable. “Coming to Crystal Palace is never easy, especially with the injuries we have. But we have to do better. We need to react better to second balls and give them fewer opportunities on set-pieces,” he added.
The Portuguese playmaker highlighted the impact of injuries on City’s recent form, noting that the absence of key players has affected their consistency. The last month and a half has been particularly challenging, with the team struggling to find its usual rhythm.
“We’re in December, and we’d like to be in a different position,” Silva admitted. “If we recover our players quickly, we can always get back to the top. But right now, our concern is winning the next game.”
Despite the setbacks, Silva remains optimistic about the team’s ability to turn things around. He stressed that regaining fitness for injured players is crucial to mounting a serious title challenge.
“For now, we focus on improving and taking it game by game,” he said. “It’s a long season, and we know what we’re capable of when we’re at full strength.”
The draw against Crystal Palace leaves Manchester City in a less-than-ideal position in the league table. With several tough fixtures ahead, the team will need to address their defensive lapses and work on creating more opportunities if they hope to climb back to the top.
