Jamie Carragher Reveals Who Liverpool Must Keep Out of Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold

Carragher explains why Virgil van Dijk’s contract renewal should be Liverpool’s top priority amidst uncertainty over Salah and Trent’s futures.

Jamie Carragher discusses Liverpool's contract dilemma involving Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, emphasizing Van Dijk's importance to the team.
Liverpool fans are anxiously awaiting updates on the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as all three stars are nearing the end of their contracts. With negotiations underway, Jamie Carragher has shared his thoughts on who Liverpool should focus on keeping.

Reports suggest that Liverpool have been in talks with Van Dijk, Salah, and Alexander-Arnold about extending their contracts. However, progress seems slow, with Van Dijk reportedly rejecting an offer that didn’t meet his expectations.

Salah has been vocal about his situation, expressing disappointment that no concrete offer has been made yet. After Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton last month, he said:

“We are almost in December, and I haven’t received any offers yet. I love this club, but it’s not in my hands. At this point, I’m probably more out than in.”

Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid. With uncertainty surrounding all three players, the pressure is mounting on Liverpool to make a decision.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher weighed in on the matter during a Q&A session with The Telegraph. When asked who Liverpool should prioritize out of the three, Carragher didn’t hesitate:

“Virgil van Dijk is the most important. Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been unbelievable, but since Van Dijk joined Liverpool, he’s been the backbone of the team.”

Carragher emphasized Van Dijk’s impact, noting that Liverpool’s struggles were evident when the defender missed significant time due to a knee injury. He continued:

“When Van Dijk is fit and playing, Liverpool compete for the biggest honors. He looks as good as ever now, and securing his future should be the club’s top priority.”

Carragher also shared advice for Alexander-Arnold, urging him to consider a contract extension with a buy-out clause to keep his options open.

“If I were Trent, I’d sign a deal with a realistic buy-out clause. That way, if Real Madrid comes calling, Liverpool gets a fair fee, and Trent leaves as a club legend.”

Carragher added that Trent is already considered Liverpool’s greatest right-back and that a well-structured deal would benefit all parties involved.

With the January transfer window approaching, Liverpool must act quickly to address the futures of their key players. The club’s decisions in the coming weeks could shape their long-term ambitions.
