Gamecocks pick up Sacred Hart Transfer Elijah Foster RHP 6’0 190 Setan Hall Prep Plainfield,

The South Carolina Gamecocks have bolstered their pitching staff with the addition of right-handed pitcher Elijah Foster, who has transferred from Sacred Heart University. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds, Foster brings a wealth of experience and potential to the Gamecocks’ bullpen.
Elijah Foster hails from Plainfield, New Jersey, where he attended Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange. During his high school years, Foster was recognized for his athleticism and baseball prowess. He was named to the All-Region 2 and All-American teams, showcasing his talent on the mound and at the plate.
Foster continued his baseball journey at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. Over two seasons with the Pioneers, he compiled a 10-4 record with a 4.91 ERA. In 132 innings pitched, he struck out 156 batters, demonstrating his ability to generate swings and misses. However, control issues were a concern, as he issued 101 walks, hit 24 batters, and threw 19 wild pitches. Despite these challenges, he limited opponents to a .216 batting average and allowed only 11 home runs.
In his sophomore season, Foster’s performance was highlighted by a 5-1 record and a 4.53 ERA over 59.2 innings, earning him All-NEC Second Team honors. He struck out 80 batters during this period. However, his junior year saw a slight decline, with a 5-3 record and a 5.23 ERA in 72.1 innings, accompanied by 76 strikeouts. Control remained an issue, as he issued 53 walks during the season.
Foster’s performance against the Gamecocks in the 2025 season provided South Carolina’s coaching staff with an up-close look at his abilities. In a February 15 matchup, Foster started for Sacred Heart but struggled, surrendering six earned runs (nine total) in just three innings. He struck out three batters but issued six walks, highlighting the control issues that have been a recurring theme in his career.
Following his time at Sacred Heart, Foster entered the NCAA transfer portal and ultimately committed to the University of South Carolina. He announced his decision via Instagram, expressing gratitude for his experiences at Sacred Heart and enthusiasm for joining the Gamecocks’ program. His commitment adds depth to South Carolina’s pitching staff and provides an opportunity for Foster to refine his skills under the guidance of the Gamecocks’ coaching staff.
As Foster transitions to South Carolina, he brings a blend of experience and potential to the Gamecocks’ bullpen. His ability to generate strikeouts is a valuable asset, and with improved control, he has the opportunity to make significant contributions to the team’s pitching staff. The Gamecocks’ coaching staff will work closely with Foster to harness his talents and address the control issues that have hindered him in the past.
Elijah Foster’s commitment to the University of South Carolina represents a promising addition to the Gamecocks’ baseball program. With his experience at Sacred Heart and potential for growth, Foster has the opportunity to develop into a key contributor for South Carolina in the coming seasons.
