Texas A&M Aggies Head Coach Makes College Football Hall of Fame Ballot
As of June 2025, Mike Elko, the current head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies football team, has not been named to the College Football Hall of Fame ballot. The National Football Foundation (NFF) typically considers coaches for induction based on their career achievements, including a minimum of 10 seasons and 100 games coached, along with a winning percentage of at least .600. Elko, who took over as head coach in 2023, has not yet met these criteria.
However, recent changes to the NFF’s eligibility rules have lowered the required winning percentage from .600 to .595, effective with the 2027 ballot. This adjustment opens the door for coaches like the late Mike Leach, who held a career win percentage of .596, to be considered for induction. While this change may benefit coaches with shorter tenures or lower win percentages, Elko’s candidacy would still depend on his long-term success and impact on the game.
Elko’s tenure at Texas A&M has shown promise, with a notable victory over LSU in the 2024 season. His leadership is credited with restoring a sense of transparency and honesty to the program, contrasting with the previous regime. Despite a strong start to the 2024 season, the Aggies faced challenges, losing four of their last five games, including matchups against rivals Texas and USC.
