Notre Dame CB Leonard Moore Named to 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List

Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore has been named to the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, underscoring his exceptional performance and character on and off the field. The Lott IMPACT Trophy is awarded annually to the nation’s top defensive player who exemplifies the qualities represented by the acronym IMPACT—Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community, and Tenacity. This recognition places Moore among an elite group of players, highlighting his rapid ascent in college football.

Leonard Moore hails from Round Rock, Texas, where he attended Round Rock High School. Despite being a three-star recruit, Moore’s potential was evident. He received scholarship offers from several institutions, including Arizona, Arizona State, California, Duke, Houston, Kansas State, Missouri, Oregon, TCU, and Vanderbilt. Ultimately, he chose to commit to the University of Notre Dame, a decision that would prove pivotal in his football career.

Moore’s freshman season in 2024 was nothing short of remarkable. Initially serving as a backup, he was thrust into a starting role following an injury to fellow cornerback Benjamin Morrison. Seizing the opportunity, Moore started 10 games and delivered standout performances, recording 48 tackles, two interceptions, ten pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and 2.0 tackles for loss. His five-pass-breakup game against USC was particularly notable, marking the second-most in a single FBS game that season and the only instance by a freshman.

Moore’s contributions were instrumental in Notre Dame’s successful season, which included victories in the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl, culminating in a berth in the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship game. His performances against teams like Louisville and Georgia Tech showcased his ability to make crucial plays in high-pressure situations.

Beyond his on-field prowess, Moore’s character has been a defining aspect of his journey. Head coach Marcus Freeman and defensive backs coach Mike Mickens have lauded Moore’s work ethic, intelligence, and leadership qualities. Freeman noted that Moore’s upbringing and family values have significantly contributed to his development as both a player and an individual.

Moore’s commitment to academics and community involvement further exemplifies the qualities honored by the Lott IMPACT Trophy. His dedication to maintaining high academic standards while actively participating in community service underscores his holistic approach to personal and professional growth.

As Moore enters his sophomore season, expectations are high. His inclusion in the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List is a testament to his potential and the promise he holds for the future. With continued development and leadership, Moore is poised to become a cornerstone of Notre Dame’s defense and a prominent figure in college football. His journey serves as an inspiring example of how talent, combined with character, can lead to exceptional achievements both on and off the field.
