Georgia football closing in on five-star safety recruit
The Georgia Bulldogs football program has been making significant strides in securing top-tier talent for its secondary, recently closing in on a highly coveted five-star safety recruit. This development underscores Georgia’s commitment to maintaining its elite status in college football.
One of the most notable additions to Georgia’s defensive backfield is KJ Bolden, a five-star safety from Buford, Georgia. Initially committed to Florida State, Bolden flipped his commitment to Georgia on National Signing Day in December 2023. Ranked as the No. 1 safety and No. 14 overall recruit nationally by 247Sports, Bolden’s decision was influenced by the strong relationships he developed with Georgia’s coaching staff, particularly head coach Kirby Smart and defensive coordinators Fran Brown and Will Muschamp.
Bolden’s commitment bolstered Georgia’s 2024 recruiting class, which was already ranked No. 1 nationally. His versatility as a two-way player at wide receiver and safety, combined with his leadership qualities, made him a standout prospect.
Building on the momentum from Bolden’s commitment, Georgia has continued to attract top defensive back talent. In January 2025, the Bulldogs secured a commitment from four-star safety Zech Fort for the 2026 class. Fort, a multi-year captain at IMG Academy in Florida, chose Georgia over offers from Alabama, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. His decision was influenced by the strong relationships he built with Georgia’s defensive back coaches, Travaris Robinson and Donte Williams.
Additionally, in November 2024, Georgia flipped four-star safety Rasean Dinkins from Georgia Tech. Dinkins, ranked as the No. 19 safety nationally, had initially committed to Georgia Tech but chose Georgia after continued recruitment by the Bulldogs’ coaching staff.
The addition of these elite safeties enhances Georgia’s defensive backfield, providing depth and versatility. Bolden’s ability to play multiple positions allows defensive coordinators to utilize him in various schemes, while Fort and Dinkins bring leadership and playmaking abilities to the secondary. These recruits are expected to contribute significantly to Georgia’s defensive strategies in the coming seasons.
