Texas A\&M Women’s Basketball Welcomes Alexis Hyder as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator
In May 2025, Texas A&M University announced the addition of Alexis Hyder as an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the Aggies’ women’s basketball team. Alexis Hyder’s journey to Texas A&M is marked by a blend of collegiate success, professional experience, and a burgeoning coaching career. A native of Austin, Texas, Hyder began her collegiate playing career at the University of North Texas, where she quickly made an impact. During the 2012–13 season, she averaged 14.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, earning Third-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors. Her performance included a career-high 25-point game in the Sun Belt Tournament, showcasing her scoring prowess and leadership on the court.
Hyder transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU) for her final two seasons, where she continued to excel. At LSU, she earned Honorable Mention All-SEC honors, was named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Newcomer of the Year, and secured a spot on the All-Louisiana Second Team. Her collegiate achievements laid a strong foundation for her subsequent professional career.
Following her time at LSU, Hyder embarked on a five-year professional basketball career overseas, playing in Sweden, Australia, and Greece. This international experience enriched her understanding of the game and provided valuable insights into different playing styles and cultures.
Hyder’s transition into coaching began in 2019 when she served as the video coordinator at Florida International University (FIU). This role allowed her to hone her analytical skills and gain a deeper understanding of game strategy.
In 2022, she joined the University of North Texas as a video coordinator, further expanding her coaching experience.
Her next move took her to Lindenwood University in 2023, where she served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. At Lindenwood, Hyder focused on developing the forwards and posts, while also playing a pivotal role in the team’s recruitment efforts.
In 2024, Hyder joined Utah State University as an assistant coach, continuing her trajectory in collegiate coaching.
At Texas A&M, Hyder’s dual role as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator is expected to have a significant impact on the program. Her extensive experience in player development, particularly with forwards and posts, will be invaluable in enhancing the team’s performance in the paint.
