Mikhail McLean signs extension with Kentucky through 2027
In a significant move to solidify the future of Kentucky men’s basketball, assistant coach Mikhail McLean has signed a contract extension through the 2026–27 season. The new deal, reported by the Lexington Herald-Leader, includes a substantial salary increase, with McLean set to earn $400,000 in the 2025–26 season and $425,000 in the 2026–27 season, up from his initial $150,000 contract. McLean, 33, joined head coach Mark Pope’s staff in June 2024 after coaching stints at Lamar University and the University of Houston. At Lamar, McLean served as the offensive coordinator and was responsible for on-court player development with the guards and wings. Prior to his tenure at Lamar, McLean spent six seasons at Houston, where he contributed to the Cougars’ success, including back-to-back American Athletic Conference titles in 2019 and 2020 and a Final Four appearance in 2021. In addition to his collegiate coaching career, McLean serves as the associate head coach and defensive coordinator for the Bahamian National Team.
