Western Kentucky defeats Kentucky baseball in a midweek game.
In a rain-affected midweek contest, the University of Kentucky Wildcats fell to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 6–4 on Tuesday at Nick Denes Field in Bowling Green. The Wildcats initially surged ahead with a 3–0 lead but were ultimately outscored 6–1 over the final innings, marking only their second loss in the last 11 meetings against the Hilltoppers.
The game commenced earlier than scheduled due to impending weather conditions, yet a significant rain delay disrupted play. Despite the interruption, Western Kentucky capitalized on the momentum shift, rallying to secure the victory.
This defeat concludes Kentucky’s non-conference schedule, as they now turn their focus to Southeastern Conference (SEC) play. The Wildcats are set to face Mississippi State in a three-game series beginning Friday, aiming to rebound from this setback and strengthen their position within the conference standings.

The weather played a big part in Kentucky Wildcats baseball’s mid-week matchup against Western Kentucky on Tuesday. They started early, then waited through a rain delay as well. Maybe they can blame that for losing to the Hilltoppers.
The Cats scored first, and jumped ahead 3-0 on a James McCoy solo homerun in the fifth inning. WKU answered in the bottom of the fifth, though, scoring four runs to take the lead. They’d tack on two more in the sixth to make it 6-3. Kentucky would score a run in the ninth, but it wasn’t enough and the final was 6-4.
Tyler Bell, Cole Hage, and Hudson Brown each had two hits for the Wildcats. Bell also scored a run and drove in another one. Hage also scored a run.
Ethan Walker started for Kentucky and gave up four runs in just over four innings. The bullpen was solid, but the offense wasn’t able to produce enough runs to catch up.
Kentucky will play a three game series against Mississippi State this week, and will try to take a third straight series.
