Utah Utes men’s basketball program, forward Jahki Howard has announced his commitment to transfer from Auburn University
Background and High School Career
Jahki Howard, a 6-foot-6, 185-pound forward from Boston, Massachusetts, was a standout player at Overtime Elite in Atlanta. During his senior year, he averaged 15.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, showcasing his scoring ability and versatility on the court. Howard’s exceptional athleticism earned him the title of the 2024 King’s Hawaiian National Slam Dunk Champion, highlighting his explosive leaping ability and flair for highlight-reel plays.
Prior to his time at Overtime Elite, Howard played at Donda Academy in Valley, California, and Norcross High School in Georgia. He also competed in football and played AAU basketball for New Heights Lightning on the Nike EYBL circuit, alongside current Auburn teammate Tahaad Pettiford.
College Career at Auburn
Howard joined Auburn as a four-star recruit in the 2024 class, ranked No. 85 overall and No. 20 at his position by 247Sports. Head coach Bruce Pearl praised Howard’s basketball IQ, athleticism, and motor, emphasizing his potential to contribute immediately to the Tigers’ program.
During his freshman season at Auburn, Howard played in six games, averaging 8.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.0 assists per game. He demonstrated efficient shooting, with a field goal percentage of 55.6%. Notably, Howard scored 13 points in a game against Richmond, showcasing his scoring prowess.
Despite facing challenges, including limited playing time and a brief suspension, Howard’s athleticism and potential were evident. His performance in the game against Richmond, where he contributed significantly off the bench, underscored his readiness to make an impact when given the opportunity.
