Travis Kelce says he’s rooting for Ohio State football to win the CFP
Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Houston Texans at home this coming weekend to start their NFL playoff journey.
The star tight end is supporting a different club that is vying for a championship as he attempts to win a third straight Super Bowl and solidify his status as a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
In an interview with “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, the resident of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, stated that he is watching Ohio State as it plays in the College Football Playoff and gets ready for the national championship matchup versus Notre Dame on January 20.
He has been cheering for the Buckeyes to win the program’s eighth national championship even though he has never played for them.
“Dude, I’m just an Ohio football fan,” Kelce remarked. “Baby, I’m rooting for all Ohio football.”
Kelce excelled at Cleveland Heights High School and later attended Cincinnati for five seasons before becoming a household name in the NFL and gaining international recognition for his connection with music sensation Taylor Swift. Since the Bearcats have only played twice since 2007 and never faced Ohio State throughout his collegiate career, Kelce rarely has to contend with conflicting loyalties.
Despite being hardly recruited when he graduated from high school, Kelce has gone on to have one of the most prosperous tight end careers in history.
He has caught 1,004 receptions for 12,151 yards and 77 touchdowns in his 12-year NFL career, helping the Chiefs, who are known for their explosiveness, win three Super Bowls. Among all tight ends in NFL history, he ranks third in yards and sixth in receiving touchdowns.
When asked if he has been watching the playoffs, Kelce responded, “If football is happening, I’m watching it, man.” “Especially when it’s being challenged by the Buckeyes.”
