Texas-Ohio State ‘College GameDay’ Picks: Who picked Longhorns or Buckeyes?
The first football game between Texas and Ohio State occurred in 2005, when Vince Young and the Longhorns defeated the Buckeyes 25-22 in Ohio Stadium, capping off a season that would go on to win the national championship.
Texas’ most recent encounter with the Buckeyes could help it come one step closer to the program’s first national championship since that historic season 19 years ago.
On Friday night, coach Steve Sarkisian’s Longhorns will face Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, one of two College Football Playoff semifinal sites this season. With a win over the Buckeyes, Texas would move to the playoff championship game on January 20 in Atlanta, where it would face Notre Dame.
The Longhorns, seeded fifth, advanced to the semifinals after defeating No. 12 Clemson 38-24 in the first round and No. 4 Arizona State 39-31 in double overtime on New Year’s Day in the quarterfinals. They will face their most difficult challenge yet in Ohio State, which defeated Tennessee and Oregon by 45 points in the first round and quarterfinals, respectively.
