The NFL legend’s son, a 5-star quarterback, receives the first SEC scholarship offer.

One of the best quarterbacks in the class of 2027 is Gunner Rivers, a graduate of St. Michael Catholic who can boost his resume with an SEC scholarship.

Gunner Rivers, a five-star prospect and the son of former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers, is ranked as the No. 4 quarterback and the No. 33 player in his class by the 247Sports composite.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound quarterback recently finished his sophomore campaign at Fairhope, Alabama’s St. Michael Catholic. Following a 17-year NFL career, Philip Rivers has been the head coach since 2021.

Rivers was the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL draft out of NC State in 2004. He went on to have a stellar career as a San Diego/Los Angeles Charger, featuring eight Pro Bowl selections. Rivers sits sixth all-time in career passing yards (63,440) and touchdowns (421).

Gunner Rivers appears to have been passed down his father’s talents, as he has already received his first SEC scholarship offer from Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers, according to WKRG.

After Tigers quarterback coach Kent Austin visited Rivers on Tuesday, Rivers added the Auburn offer. Kalen DeBoer, the head coach of Alabama, was one of several college coaches that paid the highly-regarded prospect a visit.

Rivers has been the quarterback for his father at St. Michael Catholic for the past two seasons, throwing for more than 7,000 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions.
