Whit Weeks and Garrett Nussmeier of LSU football were named Louisiana Players of the Year.

BATON ROUGE The Louisiana Sports Writers Association named the 2024 All-Louisiana College Football Team, with linebacker Whit Weeks and quarterback Garrett Nussmeier as the top accolades.

Weeks won the state’s Defensive Player of the Year award, and Nussmeier was named the Offensive Player of the Year.

Ahmad Hardy, a running back for ULM, won the award for freshman of the year. Mario Williams, a wide receiver for Tulane, was awarded the first-year Louisiana player of the year. In 2024, coach Michael Desormeaux was awarded the state’s best coach after leading the Ragin Cajuns to the Sun Belt Conference title game.

Based on nominations from each university, a committee of voters from the state media relations and communications office decided the team. Voters in school media relations were unable to select athletes from their own institution.

With an MVP performance in the Texas Bowl on Tuesday, Nussmeier concluded his junior season after passing for 3,735 yards and 26 touchdowns in the regular season. In LSU history, his 312 completions came in second, and his bowl game passing total of nearly 4,000 yards came in second. He had eight times more than 300 yards, including a career-high 409 yards against South Alabama. Five of the Lake Charles product’s games had three touchdowns or more.

Weeks, a sophomore linebacker from Watkinsville, Georgia, earned defensive honors after a first-team All-SEC season that saw him lead the Tigers in tackles with 119. He was ranked No. 3 in the SEC and No. 11 nationally in total tackles and tackles per game (9.92). He had a career best 18 tackles in the overtime win over Ole Miss and 17 tackles versus both Oklahoma and Alabama.

Will Campbell was a first team offensive line selection, with Kyren Lacy named a first-team wide receiver.

Mason Taylor, a tight end, and lineman Emery Jones were on the offensive of the second team. Lineman Savion Jones, linebacker Bradyn Swinson, and defensive back Zy Alexander represented LSU’s second team defense.

The kicker for the second team was Damian Ramos.

Two teams were chosen to represent offense, defense, and specialists; ties were permitted for positions on the second team if needed. All-Louisiana picks in full:
