Examining three Dallas Cowboys who, despite the season being largely forgettable, have had outstanding campaigns
The Cowboys’ disappointing season officially ended on Sunday afternoon, as they finished with a 7-10 record, falling below.500 for the first time since 2020. Even though the Cowboys organization and their supporters had a terrible season, a few players on the squad managed to turn in strong performances.
The Cowboys front staff will try to figure out how to give these talented guys more significant roles on the team moving ahead because a few of them have put up incredible performances throughout this terrible season.
Three players who have distinguished themselves for the Cowboys this season and delivered standout performances during a dismal year are highlighted here.
3. LB DeMarvion Is Overshown
However, this season was filled with what felt like an endless succession of disappointments and losses. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown’s knee injury in week 14 that kept him out of action for the rest of the season was one of the biggest heartaches. Overshown has had two knee injuries in his brief professional career, which is devastating for the Cowboys organization given the potential he displayed this season.
After missing the whole 2023 season because he tore his ACL in a preseason game, Overshown, a third-round choice in the 2023 draft, made his league debut at the start of the season. When Ovrershown was sacked in his first game against the Cleveland Browns, he immediately shown that he was worth the wait. This set the tone for the dominant player Overshown would become for the Cowboys.
Overshown became a pillar on a defense that has been weakened by numerous injuries this season after an outstanding debut performance. With five sacks and the second-most tackles on the club at the end of his debut year, Overshown has been nothing short of spectacular.
Mike Zimmer, Overshown’s defensive coordinator, lauded his outstanding play. After praising his linebacker, Zimmer said, “I feel like he continues to get better and better, and the more ways that we can use him, the better it is.” Zimmer, who has been an NFL coach since 1994 and is known for having one of the best defensive minds in the league, is giving this high praise.
The Cowboys organization is hopeful that Overshown can move past his troublesome injury history and develop into the Pro Bowl-caliber player he has shown glimpses of during his rookie season this fall, now that he is forced to recuperate from yet another horrific knee injury.
