Texas A&M pursues down No. 25 after Williams scores 18. Mississippi women’s comeback victory, 60-58
Texas College Station (AP) — Texas A&M defeated No. 25 Mississippi 60-58 on Sunday thanks to a strong comeback led by Sole Williams, who scored 18 points, including four crucial points in the last quarter.
At 2-2, there was one tie. Other than then, Mississippi had the lead until Texas A&M’s 12-0 run in the fourth quarter tied the score at 52 with 5 1/2 minutes left. Janae Kent’s 3-pointer made the game-winning basket.
With 2:50 left, Williams sank a 3-pointer to give the Aggies their first lead at 57-55, and with 52 seconds left, Aicha Coulibaly made a jumper to make it a four-point game.
With 43 seconds remaining, Kirsten Deans of the Rebels made all three of her 3-point attempts after being fouled on one of them, bringing the team within 59-58.
Kent missed a 3-pointer as the Aggies ran the clock down to 16 seconds. Kennedy Todd-Williams pulled down rebounds for Ole Miss, but the Aggies scored a steal thanks to a move by Jada Malone. With six seconds remaining, Williams made one free throw after being fouled, giving the Rebels a 60-58 lead. Tameiya Sadler was unable to finish in the lane as the clock ran out.
Texas A&M (8-6, 1-1 SEC) received 14 points from Jada Malone.
For Ole Miss (10-4, 1-1) Madison Scott scored 14, Starr Jacobs scored 11, and Sira Thienou scored 10.
On Thursday, Ole Miss, which ended its five-game winning streak, will face Vanderbilt. On Thursday, Texas A&M will travel to South Carolina, ranked second.
