After leaving ASU in 2024, Georgia quarterback Jaden Rashada accesses the transfer portal.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that redshirt freshman quarterback Jaden Rashada may make his third appearance in as many seasons after logging onto the transfer portal.
After transferring from Arizona State, Rashada did not play for Georgia in 2024.
For all the wrong reasons, the California native has turned into a symbol of the NIL era in collegiate athletics.
Rashada agreed to a $13 million NIL deal in order to sign with Florida, but the contract was later annulled, according to the timeline provided by G. Allan Taylor of The Athletic. After being released by the Gators, he enrolled at Arizona State.
Billy Napier, the head coach of Florida, is one of the defendants in the lawsuit that Rashada filed in May regarding the canceled NIL deal. Motions to dismiss the lawsuit have been filed by Napier and others.
Rashada was aware that joining Georgia would make him a backup. Carson Beck wasn’t going to be unseatable because he was the current starter and had received preseason Heisman Trophy fanfare.
However, when Gunner Stockton was selected to replace an injured Beck halfway through the SEC championship game, the second-year signal-caller may have begun to wonder about his future in Athens. Stockton appears to have the inside road to be the starting quarterback in 2025 since Beck is leaving for the NFL.
Rashada nonetheless said that he “needed Georgia specifically” at this point in his collegiate football career prior to the Sugar Bowl.
“Everything that I kind of had been going through and experienced this year, I learned a lot,” he commented, according to Matt Baker of The Athletic. “I feel like I needed this year a lot, and it’s exceeded every expectation plus some more.”
Rashada is unlikely to benefit from his career’s transient character. There’s a limit to being a 4-star recruit in high school.
The fact that he will still have three years of eligibility is one thing that is in his favor. Although it’s difficult for coaches to make long-term plans these days, acquiring Rashada might secure your starting position for several years.
