The Aggie defense’s apparent breakdown in the last stretch of the season has left Texas A&M football supporters furious. The Aggies had only given up 24 points to any team in their first eight games; in their last five games, they gave up 40+ twice and 30+ three times.
To put it another way, the Aggies struggled in the home stretch rather than getting better every game, and it wasn’t because they were up against top offenses. Auburn scored 31 points in regulation, and South Carolina scored 44 points against the Ags.
Many people thought that some changes would be coming because Elko himself had some harsh things to say about the defense’s performance following the bowl game disaster. Here are some names to keep an eye on if the Aggies decide to replace Jay Bateman as defensive coordinator.
Adam Fuller, one of three possible DC prospects for Texas A&M football
Despite problems this past season, the first name that springs to mind is the former DC for the Florida State Seminoles. This past season, the FSU defense was outstanding, and during his coaching career, Fuller has led multiple top units.
Although the team’s overall downfall led to his dismissal this year, many see him as a scapegoat for several more serious problems. He is a good recruiter, and his plan fits in nicely with Elko’s values.
