Chris Simms, a former Texas player, thinks Quinn Ewers ought to use the Transfer Portal.
There is still uncertainty around Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers’ decision to pursue the NFL Draft this offseason, despite his sustained impressive play in the College Football Playoffs.
Conversely, the Texas Longhorns are just one victory away from contending for their first national title since 2009. Many people are still unsure if Quinn Ewers, the starting quarterback for the Longhorns, will enter the NFL Draft at the end of the current campaign.
Ewers is rumored to decide to return for his senior year instead. But according to those speculations, Ewers would not finish his senior year in Austin. Instead, he would use the transfer portal to do it somewhere else.
Chris Simms, a former Texas quarterback and current NBC Sports analyst, is one of the people who thinks Ewers won’t be playing collegiate football in Austin the following season.
During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, Simms stated, “Yes, I would hope so because I don’t think he’s a guy that is going to go in the first two rounds of the draft.” “I believe he has the capacity to be that kind of guy, but I believe he will need to demonstrate to the public that he can play football well for at least another year.”
Simms went on to say that Ewers would depart Texas because head coach Steve Sarkisian would be giving Arch Manning, the current backup, command of the Longhorns offense. In the run-up to the Peach Bowl, the former five-star quarterback, who is also Peyton and Eli Manning’s nephew, reinforced his resolve to finish his career in Austin.
However, Simms went on to say about Ewers:
Although I don’t have any inside information, I really believe Quinn Ewers will be playing somewhere else. “He’s a quarterback in the NFL,” Simms stated. “He needs to toss the ball more forcefully. Instead of driving the ball through the target, there are far too many of these that lay the ball up there. However, I do believe it will be somewhere else.
Simms’s assumption that Ewers will wait another year to enter the NFL Draft is not incorrect. Pete Nakos of ON3 revealed only this week that Ewers received an incredible $6 million offer to transfer from a school.
Bobby Burton of OnTexasFootball.com stated that Ewers still intends to join the draft after his junior season, notwithstanding the rumored multi-million dollar offer.
Anything is conceivable until a decision is taken. Although it may be debatable if teams view Ewers as a Day 1 or Day 2 talent, he still has at least one more game to leave his mark on the draft stock.
It surely doesn’t hurt to perform well on the biggest platforms, as he demonstrated in the 39-31 victory over Arizona State in double overtime. Ewers only threw one interception while completing 20 of his 30 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns. as he used his legs to score another touchdown. When he and the Longhorns play the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl in the College Football Playoff semifinal, Ewers will be hoping to build on his impressive performance. Kickoff is scheduled for Friday, January 10 at 6:30 p.m. CT inside AT&T Stadium.
