A major transfer portal target committed to Texas A&M football late last night.
Football at Texas A&M adds a highly sought-after gateway DL Tyler Onyedim will start wrapping up the portal course.
A top portal target has once again been closed on by Texas A&M football. Since the start of the transfer window, the Aggies have sought to bolster their defensive line and receiving positions, and they have now acquired several valuable players at each position.
Mario Craver, a receiver for Mississippi State, committed, and things got started. Micah Hudson, a highly-regarded wideout, was added to the A&M commit list shortly after. As the Aggie staff started to revamp a dismal receiving room, Holmon Wiggins was experimenting with new improvements.
The Aggie DL coaches started to leave their mark, determined not to be outdone. Dayon Hayes, a transfer from Colorado and Pitt, was the first player to join with the Aggies. He was followed by Samuel M’Pemba, a top athlete from UGA, and TJ Searcy, a projected starter from Florida.
Then, Texas A&M football recruited WR KC Concepcion, another important player and potential top pick for the upcoming campaign. They might now also own the defensive line class’s diamond in the crown.
Tyler Onyedim, a senior defensive end for Iowa State, made a significant commitment to the Aggies late Friday night. During his tenure in Ames, the former Cyclone has dominated the stat sheet and earned all-Big 12 recognition.
Since Onyedim played with Rueben Fatheree at Richmond Foster during high school, he already has a connection to the Aggies. That, along with Onyedim’s upbringing in the area, must have been helping the Aggies in this one.
Make no mistake, Onyedim is a defensive lineman at his core, even though he is listed as an edge rusher. He was an advantage in Iowa State’s 3-3-5 scheme at 6’4″ and 295, but he is expected to play primarily inside for the Aggies, but he may be able to switch to SDE.
For the Aggies, this is a significant shift. This transfer portal cycle will be a perfect success for A&M if they make one or two additional additions along the way, particularly at defensive tackle. Hopefully, they will accomplish just that.
