The Clemson Tigers’ season ended when they lost to the Texas Longhorns in the first round of the College Football Playoffs.
The Tigers had a strong season, winning 10 games, taking home the ACC Title, and qualifying for the expanded CFP. However, Clemson faced an uphill struggle in the game against the Longhorns.
Texas looked like they were one of the top programs in the nation going into the matchup. The Longhorns ran the ball all over the Tigers’ defense and scored 38 points.
Overall, Clemson’s season on the defensive end of the ball was a little underwhelming. But linebacker Barrett Carter was one of their best players. The senior was a member of the All-ACC squad and a finalist for the Butkus Award.
Carter’s tenure with the Tigers has been outstanding, but the matchup with the Longhorns will mark his farewell to Clemson. The gifted linebacker talked about his time with the program and his affection for the campus after the game. This is what he said, as reported by Clemson Insider’s Will Vandervort.
The senior remarked, “I know that you all wanted more from us and everything, but love is always unconditional.” “Now that I’m leaving here, I just want you all to know how much I appreciate you all—Clemson University, the fans, the people, everyone, the students. Just know that you all continue to support us.” I am the man I am today because of all of you. I will always be appreciative of my time. My experience was unmatched, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent the previous four years at Clemson. For that, I simply want to thank everyone.
Over the past three seasons, the 22-year-old has contributed significantly to the defense, recording at least 60 tackles. He recorded 233 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 21 passes defended, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles during his time in college.
Carter, who had a stellar career with the Tigers, is now expected to be selected in the early rounds of the NFL draft.
The program will undoubtedly feel the loss of the senior linebacker, but fortunately, Clemson has some talented young linebackers who should be able to step in.
