"It's My Fault"—Ruben Amorim Takes Responsibility for Manchester United’s Loss to Nottingham Forest

Manchester United’s disappointing 3-2 loss to Nottingham Forest has left manager Ruben Amorim facing tough questions, especially regarding his team’s issues with set-pieces. United conceded once again from a corner in the opening minutes of the game, and Amorim was quick to admit that he is responsible for the team’s defensive struggles in this area.

In just the second minute of the match, Forest’s Nikola Milenkovic scored from a corner, marking the third time this week that United had conceded from a set-piece. Three days earlier, Arsenal had scored two goals from corners against them. While Rasmus Højlund equalized for United later in the first half, the team struggled in the second half, allowing two more goals in quick succession, leaving them two goals behind. Bruno Fernandes’ 61st-minute strike gave United hope for a comeback, but Forest held on to win 3-2—clinching their first victory at Old Trafford in 29 years.

After the match, Amorim did not shy away from taking the blame for United’s defensive frailties, particularly on set-pieces. He explained, “When this happens, it’s more my fault because I’m responsible. We try to do it the best way, and we worked hard on this area because we saw it in the Arsenal game, and it was really tough in this context.”

Amorim also pointed out how difficult it was for his players to recover after conceding early in the match, saying, “It’s really hard to put energy in the team after the first play. But we managed to equalize. Then in the second half, the same thing happened, and it was really hard to get the players to keep going.”

Despite his team’s struggles, Amorim chose not to blame goalkeeper Andre Onana for his errors, which included a mistake in the second half when he allowed Morgan Gibbs-White’s shot to slip past him. Amorim insisted that the entire team was responsible for the goal, saying, “We lost the ball in a transition, and there was a lot of open space. In the end, they scored, so the team suffered that goal.”

Onana had previously saved United in several matches, and Amorim emphasized the need for the team to bounce back when things go wrong. “We have to help Onana the same way he saved us in Ipswich. We lost as a team, and we need to improve in all aspects.”

United’s defeat to Forest means they have now lost six Premier League games this season, leaving them stuck in 13th place in the table. Despite the setbacks, Amorim remains focused on improving his team. He urged his players to stay positive and work harder to turn their season around.
