Liverpool FC is about to face a major challenge in the transfer market as they find themselves in unfamiliar territory. Instead of controlling their own future, the Reds must now consider multiple possible outcomes, all revolving around Mohamed Salah and his soon-to-expire contract.

Under the leadership of new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool has been nearly unbeatable. They are top of the Premier League, top of the Champions League, and still holding onto their League Cup title. However, even if the team wasn’t performing as well, the ongoing debate about Salah’s long-term future would still be a hot topic.

Salah, along with teammates Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all have contracts that expire at the end of this season. All three players have been waiting to see how the club handles this period of change. For Salah, the timing could not be better. He recently reached 10 goals and 10 assists for the season, showing that he remains one of the top players in world football.

As the clock ticks down on Salah’s contract renewal, Liverpool needs to prepare for every possible outcome. The pressure is on, and there’s already talk about a potential replacement if Salah were to leave. Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking to talkSPORT, emphasized how crucial Salah is to Liverpool’s success. He stated that Liverpool cannot afford to lose Salah, noting his impressive pace, strength, and skill on the field.

Agbonlahor praised Salah for his all-around performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, where he scored a brilliant goal and assisted Darwin Nunez. He also stressed that Salah is still at the top of his game, even as he gets older. Agbonlahor believes that Liverpool should offer Salah whatever he wants, even if it’s £500k a week, because a player of his caliber is irreplaceable.

As Liverpool works to renew Salah’s contract, they might need to look at alternatives, especially if they are forced to find a replacement next summer. One potential target is Jonathan David, the 24-year-old striker from Lille in France. David, like Salah, is out of contract next summer and has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the past.

Reports suggest that David is asking for €6 million (£4.9 million) per year, which would be a significant rise from his current wage of around €2.5 million to €3 million (£2 million to £2.4 million) annually. If David’s demands are met, he would earn approximately £95,000 per week. Other clubs, such as Juventus, Barcelona, Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Chelsea, are also said to be interested in David, so Liverpool will need to make a decision on whether to meet his contract demands.

Liverpool’s next steps are critical. The club must act quickly to secure Salah’s future, while also keeping an eye on the market for potential replacements. The situation is still unfolding, and it remains to be seen how it will all play out.
