Gary Neville Calls on Rashford and Garnacho to ‘Work Harder’ and ‘Press Better’ After Draw with Chelsea

After Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on November 3, great Gary Neville is calling on Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to improve. Neville thinks that both players should put in more effort to help the team perform better, particularly when they are not in possession of the ball.

The game at Old Trafford was Manchester United’s first since manager Erik ten Hag was fired, but they struggled once more and were only able to draw. United took the lead through Bruno Fernandes in the 70th minute, but Chelsea quickly equalized four minutes later through a goal from Moises Caicedo.

After the game, frustrated Neville noted that Garnacho and Rashford, who both graduated from the club’s academy, needed to do more. “I’m not going to dig Rashford and Garnacho out, but I am,” he stated. He stressed that there are expectations for academy players, including working hard.

Neville pointed out the value of their defensive play, stating that they would be more effective offensively if they put in a lot of effort without the ball. The club needs greater coaching to strengthen their pressing tactics, he stated, adding, “The harder you work, the luckier you get.”

Rashford and Garnacho have combined for ten goals and seven assists so far this season. Garnacho has six goals and four assists in 16 games, compared to Rashford’s four goals and three assists. The team is still not performing well despite their contributions.

With three wins, three draws, and four losses so far, United is in a disappointing 13th place in the league with just 12 points from 10 games. United will concentrate on their next Europa League match against PAOK at Old Trafford on November 7. They will then play Leicester City in the Premier League on November 10 and another league game against Ipswich Town on November 24. If they want to get back on track, they must make quick progress.
