Manchester United release official statement to address Reasons Behind the Decision to Part Ways with Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag’s time as manager of Manchester United has come to an end, just 116 days after they opted to extend his contract. Although it wasn’t an easy decision, the club had to take action due to previous poor performance and results.

For the past two and a half years, Erik ten Hag has been with Manchester United. Despite remaining manager after United’s eighth-place Premier League result last season, nothing changed. This season, the team has had a rough start, despite winning the FA Cup, which helped ten Hag maintain his job in the summer.

These problems are seen in United’s current league standing of 14th with a -3 goal difference. To make matters worse, they haven’t won any of their Europa League games so far. Although the team wants to be in the top four this season, they thought that a change in management was necessary because they were only averaging 1.2 points per game.

This choice comes after several recent management changes at the club. After Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake in United last December, the team appointed a new chief executive, a technical director, and a sporting director for the first time. In addition to joining the coaching staff as assistants, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake will now serve as temporary manager.

Last month, CEO Omar Berrada indicated support for ten Hag, but the team’s poor performance made the club’s management reconsider their position. Decision-makers at United wanted to give ten Hag more time to be successful with the new leadership group, but the outcomes weren’t getting better.

Ten Hag found it difficult to guide the team to consistent success even with the resources and assistance the club provided. Fans and the team are dissatisfied with United’s poor on the field and in European competitions.
