Fans shocked as Erling Haaland Reveals Shocking Reason why he had to miss Ballon d'Or Event despite being nominated
Manchester City's star striker chooses to support Malmo’s title victory over attending the Ballon d'Or event in Paris

Manchester City top striker Erling Haaland, made an unexpected decision on Monday night by not attending the Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris. Haaland did not attend the event; instead, he was spotted at Malmo’s Eleda Stadion watching a Swedish football game. Haaland finished fifth in the Ballon d’Or rankings this season despite having an incredible season in which he scored 38 goals in 45 games and won another Premier League title. His teammate Rodri won his first ever Ballon d’Or, taking first place.
Given that he attended the ceremony the previous year and even took home the Gerd Muller Trophy for being the season’s best scorer, Haaland’s absence was surprising. However, Haaland decided to spend the evening as a spectator, watching the game in Sweden, instead of attending the honors in Paris. He was spotted cheering on Malmo when they won their 24th Swedish league title after defeating IFK Goteborg 2-1. Haaland posted pictures from the game to Instagram while sporting a Malmo jersey bearing the name of Erik Botheim, a close friend from his early years in Norway.
While other honors were given to stars and teams, Rodri set a new record by winning his first ever Ballon d’Or in Paris. Lamine Yamal, Barcelona’s rising star, won the Kopa Trophy for his amazing accomplishments. While Real Madrid was crowned the Men’s Club of the Year, Barcelona was chosen the Women’s Club of the Year.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez won the Yashin Trophy as the best goalkeeper for the second year in a row, while Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe both shared the Gerd Muller Trophy for scoring 52 goals last season. Mbappe, like Haaland, was also absent from the event due to Real Madrid’s choice to skip the ceremony.
Haaland celebrated alongside fans in the stands, sharing in the excitement of live football as Malmo won the league title, while top players and managers gathered in Paris. He was with other fans in the stadium, cheering on his friend, and enjoying the game he loves made it a memorable night for him in a different manner.
