Enzo Maresca Outlines Careful Approach to Safeguard Reece James from Recurring Injuries
Chelsea Head Coach Reveals Plan to Carefully Manage Captain Reece James' Fitness Amid Ongoing Injury Concerns

Enzo Maresca, the head coach of Chelsea, has revealed his plans for managing Reece James’ health as the defender recovers from a long-term hamstring injury to avoid further relapse. James is now available for selection as the Blues get ready for a Premier League match against Liverpool which will be played on Sunday, but he will be managed carefully to prevent more setbacks, Maresca explained.
James has had a difficult series of injuries, the most recent of which kept him out for a long time during Chelsea’s preseason campaign and the first few games of the actual season. James did play in preseason under former Coach Mauricio Pochettino, but he was unable to play in league games due to a setback in his recovery. The club is being careful with his return and has him back in training.
Maresca explained in the pre match press conference that reducing James’ playing time is one of the most effective ways to make sure he stays healthy and fit. “The solution with Reece is the same we are using with Wes and Romeo; using them in one game per week,” said Maresca. James’ body is not yet prepared to stand the stresses of playing many games a week, he emphasised, and this gradual return is intended to avoid injury recurrence.
“It’s complicated when you get injuries again and again,” Maresca said, acknowledging the difficulties of managing players who have a history of injuries. You are always looking for a solution, so it’s not easy.” This shows the club’s ongoing efforts to keep key players healthy despite a busy schedule of games.

Maresca’s current plan is to let James gradually return to full fitness, with the focus on keeping his participation to one game per week. While increasing his stamina and strength is the long-term objective, James’s ability to break free from the injury cycle that has hindered his career thus far is the top focus right now.
Maresca’s careful approach will probably be important in determining how well James can contribute to the team’s success this season while avoiding injuries, as Chelsea fans anxiously anticipate the return of the captain.
